Texas Teachers Salary Increase

Texas Teacher’s Salary Increase

Do you want to teach in Texas? If your answer is “YES!” then your timing is excellent. A recent search on the job board “Work in Texas” currently lists over 20,000 teaching positions open in Texas. Plus, school districts in Texas have raised the starting salary for teachers considerably. Not only that, there are other ways to increase your teacher’s salary with stipends, bonuses, and other benefits.

Average Salary for Starting Teachers

If you aren’t familiar with starting salaries for teachers, you may be thinking of your own teacher’s salary from when you were in school, but times have changed. Starting salaries for teachers in larger cities are at or near $60,000. At iteach, we have seen job board postings for schools with teacher salaries that start at $70,000.

How High Do Teacher Salaries Go?

When people think of salaries for teachers, they often think of teachers being underpaid. Teachers are some of the hardest working people on the planet and should be compensated well for their positions, but did you know that many teachers are paid very well? Some Texas teachers earn over $100,000 a year. According to an article posted on Teacher Incentive Allotment rewards the best teachers with higher salaries through state funding that has been set aside to keep teachers in the classroom. Educators who are selected have shown to be effective teachers, and their results demonstrate measurable improvements in their students. The program requires participating districts to implement systems that will designate teachers as “recognized,” “exemplary,” or “master.” According to an article from kdhnews.com,

Copperas Cove teachers have the potential to earn a six-figure salary thanks to a new program through the Texas Education Agency. The new Teacher Incentive Allotment rewards the best teachers with higher salaries through state funding that has been set aside to keep teachers in the classroom.

“Educators who are selected have shown to be effective teachers, and their results demonstrate measurable improvements in their students. The program requires participating districts to implement systems that will designate teachers as “recognized,” “exemplary,” or “master.”

While making $100,000 a year is not typical, it is also not impossible. iteach allows teachers to use their credits towards a master’s degree with the American College of Education. These degrees can be completed online, starting at just $6200. Combine a master’s degree with other tools and resources offered by iteach, and you could be designated as an “exemplary” or “master” educator. These designations in Texas have big pay-offs financially.

Teacher Sign-on Bonuses in Texas

As the marketing director for iteach, I recently got a call from an administrator who said that their school was doing something she had never heard of; they were giving a $10,000 sign-on bonus. That’s right, many schools are giving large sign-on bonuses, and if you want to be a teacher, some districts are paying for the cost of an alternative certification program like iteach. That’s right; you could get your teacher certification paid for in full by some districts if you qualify.
