Teacher Certification Routes

In the state of Nevada, individuals can pursue teacher certification by either completing a degree program at a university or by completing an Alternative Route to Licensure (ARL) program. ARL programs are offered by colleges, districts, and private providers.  The Department of Education lists 11 approved ARL programs. Private ARL Routes

The DOE currently has approved three private ARL providers: iteachNEVADA, Nevada Teacher Corps/The New Teacher Project, and Nevada Teachers of Tomorrow.

Each program is different. Each program has different program offerings. Below is a high-level overview of the program and its unique offering. .


Cost: $4,250.00

iteachNEVADA offers an online program. It is nationally accredited and state approved. iteach has certified over 15,000 teachers since 2003 and boasts an exceptional rate of hiring for those enrolled in the program. iteach is a family-run program with certified teachers making up its leadership team. The family and teacher experience perspective is evident throughout training.

Nevada Teacher Corps/The New Teacher Project

Cost: $5,500.00

Nevada Teacher Corps is a branch of the New York-based organization, The New Teacher Project (TNTP). TNTP is highly respected for its field work in developing teacher effectiveness.  The program includes a seven-week summer training program (7:00 AM – 6:00 PM five days a week). Graduates of Nevada Teacher Corps have the ability to continue their education after program completion at John Hopkins University. Nevada Teacher Corps currently only offers initial certification in Elementary grades.

Nevada Teachers of Tomorrow

Cost: $4,495.00

Nevada Teachers of Tomorrow offers an online program. Its parent company, Teachers of Tomorrow, has certified over 40,000 teachers since 2006. They offer a free application process. They also offer a variety of certification areas both at the Elementary and Secondary level.

District ARL Routes

The DOE currently has approved two district-based ARL providers: Washoe County School District and Clark County School District

University ARL Routes

The DOE currently has approved six university ARL Providers: Grand Canyon University, Great Basin College, National University, Sierra Nevada College, University of Nevada – Las Vegas (UNLV), and Western Governors University.
