BEING HIRED AS AN INTERN
The path to getting hired as an intern can feel a little back and forth, but with these steps, you will find some clarity!
To begin this process, you will need to complete the first 3 courses in Canvas (5100-5300), gain thirty observation hours, set up your payment plan, and then successfully pass your state content test. After you have accomplished this, you will receive your Statement of Eligibility (SOE).
Hopefully you have found a district that is willing to hire you. You will need to send the SOE to the school district to fill out, and they will then send the completed SOE back to iteach at kay.clark@iteach.net.
After iteach has had the chance to review your filled out SOE, we will then recommend you for your Intern Certificate. After this, you will be eligible for hire as an intern!
WHAT IS AN INTERN CERTIFICATE?
An Intern Certificate is specific to the district of hire, the date of hire, and the content area of hire – there is not a generic Intern Certificate. Instead, it is particular to your teaching position. Once receipt of your Statement of Eligibility, verifying your Field Experience, you can be recommended for your Certificate. Instructions for applying for the Intern Certificate are located in 5100.
The key documents to help facilitate your hire will be the Statement of Eligibility. You will provide this to the district as it shows you are an active candidate with iteachTEXAS and eligible for your Intern Certificate. You can download your Statement of Eligibility from your homepage on InstructNET.
Once you have been hired and this is verified through your Statement of Eligibility, then we can move forward with the recommendation of your Intern Certificate.
Note: A Probationary Certificate is similar to the Intern Certificate but requires both the content test and the PPR test to be passed to be eligible for a Probationary Certificate.
