TEA TEACHER CERTIFICATION UPDATE (COVID-19)
Thank you for your patience as we wade through these unchartered waters together. We have been working closely with the Texas Education Agency, State Board of Education and State Board for Educator Certification.
On March 25th, the following guidance has been provided:
Candidates hired Fall 2019
The Spring 2020 Semester will count as a full semester, regardless of the number of days spent in the classroom. Meaning, for Fall 2019 candidates the Spring 2020 semester completes your two-semester Internship. We will begin working through the process of collecting all supervisor paperwork and updating your homepage. Field Experience completion information will all be updated by May 15th.
Candidates hired Spring 2020
The Spring 2020 Semester will count as a full semester of observation; the Fall 2020 semester will complete your two-semester Internship.
Candidates Completing their Clinical Placement Spring 2020
The Spring 2020 Semester will count as a full semester. This means that the Spring 2020 semester completes your Clinical teaching experience. We will begin working through the process of collecting all supervisor paperwork and updating your homepage. Field Experience completion information will all be updated by May 15th.
All requirements related to field supervision of candidates have been waived, including the number, duration, timing, and format of the observation. Meaning, your Field Supervisor will submit documentation from your classroom observations as it stands today. The iteachTEXAS Advisory Board, staff, and Field Supervisor will review for the determination of a successful Field Experience.
We have not been provided guidance related to testing requirements and certification. This issue has many interconnected pieces, and the state has not provided direction as it relates to testing and its effect on one’s certification. We understand some of you need to still take your Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) exam, but testing centers are currently closed. We will update you with PPR testing and center information when we know more.
For candidates not yet hired:
The state has provided flexibility for the 30 hours of Classroom Observations. All Observation Hours may be completed online. You can use the Teaching Channel to log all 30 hours.
My strong recommendation is to complete all the program requirements you have control over. If you have not finished all the coursework, you need to have this completed as soon as possible.
As various state entities provide guidance, we will continue to keep you updated.
